On May 24, the School of Management, Shandong University held a mental health education activity called “i” Journey of the Heart at its central campus. Grounded in Erik H. Erikson’ s theory of ego identity, the activity adopted an innovative progressive framework of “I-You-We-Us”. Through an immersive exploration journey, participants were guided to develop a solid sense of self-identity via role-playing and value judgment, helping them smoothly navigate the psychological moratorium phase of college years.
Organized under the guidance of the School’s Secondary Psychological Counseling Station and planned by the “i-School of Management” Studio, the event was co-hosted by EIC Education (Jinan). A complete exploration route centered on “ego identity” was arranged on site. Participants formed teams of four and embarked on a series of challenges with “heart power vouchers”. Through interactive experiences, they completed a full cycle of mental growth from self-awareness to value affirmation and finally peer connection.

The activity consisted of four interconnected challenge stations. At the Emotional Resonance Zone, participants was guided by “Heart Sound Decoding” cards to confront academic and interpersonal troubles. They eased loneliness through mutual empathy, realizing the connection from “I” to “You”. At the Value Anchoring Area, there was an archery game, guiding students to break free from external stereotypes and anchor their self-identity to reach core consensus as “We”. The Scenario Performance Hall focused on real-life issues such as dormitory conflicts and workplace emotional manipulation. Teams acted out scenarios based on established values, turning cognition into practical action. With the help of GROW model dialogues and “Echo Dialogue” rituals, the Peer Solidarity Station built an atmosphere of deep trust, allowing participants to feel the safety of acceptance as a united “Us”.
After the journey, many participants shared their feelings. In the “Heart Sound Decoding” exercise, they realized that they were not alone. Through the archery challenges, they clarified their true aspirations. And the scenario enactment made them practice resolving real conflicts with true values in advance. Finally, exchanging their “heart power vouchers” for prizes also symbolized a valuable inner growth.
After the event, Li Kang, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Management, remarked that witnessing students grow from confusion to clarity was the best testament to the event’ s purpose. Going forward, the Secondary Psychological Counseling Station will build on this event, keep innovating working approaches, further develop the “i” series of branded activities, cater to students’ practical needs, and wholeheartedly safeguard the mental health of young students.
