The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas)


Why School of Management, Shandong University? 

Shandong University was established in 1901 and is a comprehensive Project 211 and Project 985 university, and a leading center of Chinese modern higher education.

 

Located in Jinan, Shandong province, School of Management was founded in 1985, and now is one of the largest schools in Shandong University. It offers a complete educational system at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and is currently home to over 6,000 students. The academic team consists of high-level scholars and teachers at all levels of experience and maintains close cooperation with domestic and foreign academics. In the 4th round of the China Discipline Ranking (2017), the School’s Business Administration course was graded as A-, indicating the School’s broad influence and recognition countrywide.

 

The School of Management highly values its domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperation, which help to improve the quality of the faculty. The School has recently established a close cooperative relationship with universities and colleges in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, and South Korea, thus creating a broad platform for research, teaching, and communication among both teachers and students.



Program Details

The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars from overseas (including non-Chinese foreign talents) who have made achievements in natural science, engineering and technology to return to China and carry out innovative research in their own choice of research direction, promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, cultivate a number of outstanding academic backbones who are expected to reach the frontier of science and technology in the world, and contribute to building national strength in science and technology.


 

Remuneration & Support

  • Competitive salary: with basic annual pay 750,000 RMB, and uncapped comprehensive income are available. 

  • Funds for research development: about 3 to 7 million RMB, including funding from the national government.

  • Decent working and living conditions: 2.5 million RMB (tax-free) is given for your family settling. Another 250,000 RMB can be declared as subsidy for postdoctoral students who work in Jinan and Qingdao.

  • Other supporting conditions: for the first three years of the first employment period, a doctoral student indicator will be guaranteed; enough postdoctoral indicators will be provided according to the needs of team building, with no less than 1 key funded postdoctoral indicator during the first employment period; the talent apartment is provided for free during the first employment period.



Application Qualifications

Applicants of Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) should met the following conditions:

(1) Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, have good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era;

(2) Have a date of birth after September 1, 1984;

(3) Has a doctoral degree;

(4) The research direction is mainly Management, Economy etc.;

(5) Before April 15, 2023, the applicant should have obtained a formal teaching or research position in an overseas university, research institution, or corporate research and development institution, and have more than 36 months of continuous work experience; for those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas and have particularly outstanding performance, the limitation of work experience may be appropriately relaxed;

(6) The applicant shall have obtained the achievement of research or technology and other achievements recognized by peer experts, and have the development potential of becoming an academic leader or outstanding talent in related field;

(7) The applicant has not yet returned to work in China (to China) on a full-time basis, or returned (came) to work in China after Jan,3, 2022. The applicant must resign from the overseas work or have no work overseas after being notified of the grant of funding and return (come) to work in China full-time for at least 3 years.


Requirements for limited programs

(1) The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) implements the requirements of limited programs of the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars in the National Natural Science Fund Guide to Programs 2021.

(2) Those who applied for or are undertaking the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars in the current year are not allowed to apply for Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas).

(Ps: The above conditions are based on the guidelines of NSFC Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas) in 2023, the specific qualifications shall be subject to NSFC's guidelines for this program issued in 2024.)
