To celebrate the 122nd anniversary of the founding of Shandong University and the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the School of Management, the School held the Fifth Alumni Homecoming Day Event on November 4th at the Central Campus. Lu Yanhua, Vice President of Shandong University, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Vice President Lu introduced the development achievements of Shandong University and the School in recent years. He said that Shandong University is entering a new stage of “comprehensive strength” and alumni are the most important and trustworthy driving force for its development. The University and the School are looking forward to creating a bright future of mutual integration, mutual promotion, mutual benefit and win-win situation with alumni, and making new and greater contributions to the construction of a strong country of education, science and technology, and talents.
Wu Changqi, Chair Professor of Shandong University and Dean of the School, said that the School will effectively build an emotional, cultural and career community between the alumni and the School, and continue to optimize the brand of “Alumni of the School of Management, Shandong University”. He was looking forward to focusing on the development of the economy and society with the alumni, accelerating the construction of the management discipline system with Chinese characteristics and the style of Shandong University, improving the ability to serve the society, and contributing to the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and the improvement of the School.
Dong Jiming, alumni representative, 2003 alumnus of the School, and co-founder and CTO of Shanghai Xingyun Aidian Technology Co., Ltd., combined his experience and shared how to apply the knowledge of management disciplines in practice to solve the work problems from the perspective of career development. He said that it is of great significance for the Alumni Association to built a unique bridge between the alumni and the University for emotional contact, sharing, and mutual development, and expressed his gratitude and blessings to the University and the School.
At the opening ceremony, a ceremony was held to award letters of appointment to “Entrepreneurship Mentors”. The School and the alumni work together to cultivate students’ comprehensive ability and entrepreneurial awareness and provide entrepreneurial resources and support.
Meng Qingchun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School and President of the Alumni Association, presided over the opening ceremony. The event specially invited Pei Zhongyang, senior partner of Alliance PKU Management Consultants Ltd.(ALLPKU) and part-time researcher of Institute of International and Strategic Studies of Peking University, and Wang Xuedian, Executive Dean of Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies of Shandong University, and editor-in-chief of Journal of Chinese Humanities, to give keynote reports. Dean Wu Changqi and Vice Dean Zhang Jianghua of the School presided over the reports.
With the title of “Strategy is the Direction: The Theory and Practice of Strategic Positioning”, Professor Pei started his report with the connotation and value of strategy and how to formulate a development strategy. Combined with the examples of strategy formulation of today’s outstanding enterprises, he pointed out that strategy is the direction and is a global and long-term competitive strategy and development planning. He used the “three-dimensional coordinates” model of strategic positioning to introduce the specific methods and value of strategic positioning from the aspects of “business format”, “industry boundary” and “competitive position”. He said that we should clarify the importance of resources and integrate resources to enable continuous transition and upgrade of enterprises, and emphasized that enterprises need to use strategic thinking in the new era to collaborate for future growth.
Under the title of “From the Fit, the Combination to the Integration: The Intrinsic Connection between Marxism and Confucianism”, Professor Wang elaborated on the three aspects of “The Difference Between Confucianism and Other Schools of Thought”, “The Significance of Confucianism for Management”, and “The Combination of Marxism and Confucianism”. He said that Confucianism reflects the basic management system and management style of traditional society and stresses humane management, and the fundamental mechanism of its functioning lies in the coordination of human relations and behaviors. Finally, he emphasized the need to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture under the guidance of Marxism.
In the morning, the School organized a forum for outstanding alumni in the Alumni Hall. Representatives of outstanding alumni Dong Jiming, Han Xiaopeng, Min Yijie and Liu Xiaohua were invited to share their study and work experience and life insights with the students, helping them clarify their career development planning and life development direction.
In the Fifth Alumni Homecoming Day Event of the School, Shandong University and Shandong High-speed Materials Digital Technology Co., Ltd. signed a university-enterprise cooperation agreement to explore the new liberal arts teaching reform and practice in the context of digital intelligence and to achieve the all-round integrated linkage of talent training, human resources development, and research results transformation to meet the needs of the industry development.
Nearly 300 people attended the event, including the persons in charge of the relevant institutes of the University, representatives of university-enterprise cooperation institutes, alumni representatives, and representatives of teachers and students of the School.
