In the celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Shandong University, the School of Management held an alumni exchange forum on “the 120th Anniversary of Shandong University, the aspiration of talent cultivation” on October 15. The forum was divided into three sub-forums: undergraduate, master and doctoral programs, MBA/EMBA programs and executive education. More than 70 alumni gathered to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Shandong University and discuss the future development of the School of Management. Ji Xiaoqing, Party Secretary of the School of Management, Wang Yimin, Meng Qingchun, Bian Jiang, Associate Deans of the School, Shi Yan, Deputy Party Secretary of the School, and faculty representatives from each department attended the forum.
Leaders of the School expressed warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the alumni from all over the world, and introduced in detail that Shandong University and the School of Management always take the development needs of the Party and the country and the requirements of the society as the guide, firmly establish the fundamental task of cultivating talents, and take practical actions to profoundly answer the times’ proposition of “what kind of talents to cultivate, how to cultivate talents, and for whom to cultivate talents”. With the main line of wide platform, strong team, large project and huge achievement, the leaders also gave a comprehensive introduction to the development situation of the University and the School, and development achievements in discipline construction, scientific research, social services and other aspects.
Ji Xiaoqing, in his speech, shared the feeling of attending the convention to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Shandong University, saying that the School, which is in its best development period, is concentrating all its efforts towards the goal of “building up a world-class school of management that takes root in Shandong, serves China and influences the world, and cultivating management elites that care about family and country, hold global vision and future-leading insight” with the momentum of vigorous endeavor. Wang Yimin stressed that at this special point of the 100th Anniversary of CPC and the 120th Anniversary of its founding, Shandong University, having gone through 120 years of hardships and vicissitudes and shared the same destiny with the country and the nation, now stands at a new starting point. Its strategy of “strengthening the university and rejuvenating the country” embodies the original intention, determination and confidence of all SDUers who are committed to building a first-class university and rejuvenating China, encouraging students to carry forward the spirit of SDU and build up their careers. Meng Qingchun explained to the alumni attending the meeting the important measures that Shandong University took in the construction of “Double-First Class” and the construction of new liberal arts, delivering his wishes for the alumni, as the witnesses of the construction of SDU, the inheritors and promoters of the SDU spirit, and the builders of the development of the alma mater, to return to SDU often. Shi Yan said that the School of Management actively implements the strategy of serving Shandong Province and the development concept of taking root in Shandong, adheres to the alumni working tenet of “serving the alumni, the university, and the society, working together to build a community towards development”, and is committed to serving alumni and promoting common development. Shi also expressed the wish for promoting exchanges and deepening cooperation with alumni and alumni enterprises in more fields and at higher levels. Faculty representative Sun Tao said in his speech that as teachers, they always care about the growth of the alumni, and they can feel the happiness of the alumni. Sun also thanked the alumni for their reward and support to the school and the university.
The love from the alma mater is deep, and the gratitude from alumni is profound. During the forum, the alumni got a better understanding of the development of the University and the School through promotional videos, introductions, statements and interactions in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. Alumni representatives expressed their best wishes for the 120th Anniversary of SDU, and shared their experience from the fine campus life to their personal growth, as well as gratitude for the teaching and cultivation of the School and teachers, with tears of emotion. They also shared their current career situations and made suggestions for the future development of the University and the School, saying that they would continue to follow and support the construction and development of the alma mater, and would combine the superior resources in various fields to continuously promote the win-win cooperation with the University and the School.
After the forum, the alumni of undergraduate, master and doctoral programs visited the Experimental Center of Management Discipline, the alumni of MBA/EMBA programs visited the History Museum of SDU, and the alumni of Executive Education Center participated in the activity of Shandong University Alumni Spring City Walk -- into the starting area of the new and old growth driver transformation in Jinan. The alumni visited the campus, recalled the lost times, reviewed the development history, and experienced the rapid changes of the campus. They walked around Jinan, practiced the strategy of serving Shandong Province, and promoted the integration of SDU resources with the regional strategy.
