Professor Yu Guodong and PhD Student Dong Pengcheng Won Best Paper Award at ICIEA 2025

The 12th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA 2025) was recently held in Seoul, South Korea. The paper titled “Supply Network Resilience Under Joint Demand and Supply Uncertainty with Ambiguous Correlation”, co-authored by Professor Yu Guodong and Dong Pengcheng, a PhD student (class of 2022) in Management Science and Engineering at the School of Management, Shandong University, was honored with the Best Paper Award at the conference. The study focused on supply networks facing simultaneous demand and supply uncertainties with ambiguous correlations. It proposed a data-driven robust optimization strategy that integrates joint inventory prepositioning and backup capacity planning to enhance supply network resilience. In addition to the Best Paper Award, Dong also received the Excellent Oral Presentation Award.

Dong has achieved a series of research breakthroughs in data-driven complex decision-making optimization methodologies and their applications. His related work has been published in leading journals in the field of management science, including the INFORMS Journal on Computing and IISE Transactions.

Since its inception in 2014, the ICIEA has been held annually in cities such as Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Nagoya. As a well-recognized international conference in the field of industrial engineering, ICIEA covers a wide range of topics including theoretical research, engineering techniques, methodologies, and real-world applications. The event has attracted over a thousand scholars from more than 50 countries and regions. The 2025 edition brought together leading experts and scholars from around the world to discuss pressing issues in the field, promoting integration between theoretical research and practical applications, and advancing interdisciplinary collaboration and engineering solutions to real-world problems. A total of three Best Paper Awards and fifteen Best Oral Presentation Awards were presented at the conference.

In recent years, Yu has conducted extensive research on data-driven complex decision-making optimization methodologies and their applications. His work has been published in top-tier journals including Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Production and Operations Management, Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, IISE Transactions, Naval Research Logistics, and Systems Engineering – Theory & Practice. He has also led collaborative research with leading industrial firms such as China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), Weichai Power, and Moon Environment Technology on critical issues in intelligent manufacturing system planning and operations for high-end equipment, facilitating research-to-application translation.
