International Engineering Project Management Series Textbook Compilation Work Meeting Convened

On July 24, the compilation work meeting for the International Engineering Project Management series textbooks was held at the School of Management, Shandong University. Attendees included expert representatives from 12 universities, including Shandong University, Tongji University, Tianjin University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Dalian University of Technology, and Chongqing University, as well as from the China International Contractors Association (CHINCA), China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), Power Construction Corporation of China, and China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited. Professor Ding Ronggui, Dean of the School of Management of Shandong University and Deputy Director of the Textbook Compilation Committee, presided over the meeting and delivered the opening speech.

Professor Ding stated that international engineering projects bear the critical mission of realizing China’s “Belt and Road” and “Going Global” national strategies. The challenges they face are increasingly complex, and universities and enterprises must courageously shoulder the historical responsibility for national and industry development. By effectively integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience, they can contribute to the updating of the knowledge system for international engineering project management and the cultivation of talents in international engineering project management. The International Engineering Project Management series textbooks, initiated by the China International Contractors Association and led by Shandong University, involve collaborations between renowned universities and leading enterprises. This systematic project aims to integrate industry-University-Research (IUR) to enhance the global influence of China’s distinctive expertise and wisdom in international engineering project management. It is designed to serve the national talent cultivation strategy and meet the high-quality development needs of the international engineering industry. This series will incorporate cutting-edge research findings from universities and the latest practical cases from enterprises, and is expected to become the most authoritative guide in the field of international engineering project management.

During the meeting, experts including Zhang Fang, Director of the Department of Membership and Training of the China International Contractors Association, Sun Tao, Director of the Standard Development and Promotion Project Center at the School of Management of Shandong University, and Professor Li Yongkui from Tongji University discussed the textbook’s content design, division of labor, and collaboration models. The chapter structure, task allocation, and compilation requirements were finalized, and long-term university-enterprise cooperation intentions among the China International Contractors Association, 12 universities, and 8 leading industry enterprises were further discussed and agreed upon.

In concluding remarks, Xin Xiuming, Vice President of the China International Contractors Association, emphasized that the compilation of the International Engineering Project Management series textbooks brings together cutting-edge professional expertise from renowned universities and leading enterprises. He stressed that the compilation team must attach great importance to ensuring the quality of the textbooks, closely align them with the “International Project Manager Competency Evaluation” standards and related evaluation processes, integrate pathways for cultivating talent in international engineering project management, and effectively address project management challenges faced by enterprises. Meanwhile, the China International Contractors Association will continue to refine the university-enterprise cooperation mechanism, promote Industry-University-Research collaboration, and achieve resource sharing, complementary advantages, and mutual benefits.

The convening of this work meeting has established an association-university-enterprise exchange and cooperation platform to enhance China’s international engineering project management capabilities. It has facilitated the formation of a Chinese-style international engineering project management knowledge system and supports the implementation of national strategies such as “Going Global” and the “Belt and Road Initiative”. In the future, the School of Management of Shandong University will continue to promote tripartite exchanges and cooperation among associations, universities, and enterprises, contributing more wisdom to the construction of the international engineering project management knowledge system and talent cultivation.
