On the morning of December 10th, Assistant Professor Wang Danqing from the Department of Management at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, was invited to visit the School of Management at Shandong University and deliver an academic lecture titled“When Global Meets Local: Community Political Ideology and Chinese Firms’ Cross-Border Acquisitions in the United States”. Wang shared her insights on publishing in top academic journals. Xu Yuehua, Director of the Department of Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the School, presided over the lecture.
Starting from the practical challenges faced by firms from developing countries in engaging in cross-border acquisitions, Wang summarized factors at the individual, industry, and national levels, and proposed that the local context of the acquired firm might influence the success of the acquisition. From the perspective of political psychology, she points out that the ideological differences between conservative and liberal spectra in different communities (counties) in the United States may influence the local residents' acceptance of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, thereby affecting the success of such transactions. Additionally, positive media coverage and the economic conditions of the local community can moderate this impact. She also elaborated on the measurement methods, empirical design, and theoretical contributions of the research. During an interactive session with the audience, Wang emphasized the ways and importance of addressing endogeneity issues. At the end of the lecture, the attending teachers and students engaged in in-depth exchanges on research methods, impact mechanisms, and potential future research directions.
In the afternoon, Wang held a discussion and exchange session with faculty and students of the college. Five master's and doctoral students presented their research proposals or working papers respectively.
