The First “China International Business Management Scholars Forum” Successfully Held

On August 25th, the inaugural China International Business Management Scholars Forum was held in Qingdao, Shandong, hosted by the Forum Preparatory Committee and undertaken by the School of Management, Shandong University. The theme of the forum was "China and the World".

Wu Changqi, Chair Professor and Dean of the School of Management at Shandong University, welcomed attendees and encouraged scholars to seize the opportunities for development in the field of international business management. He urged scholars to adopt open and objective research perspectives to jointly address pressing issues in international business both in China and globally, thereby promoting the academic progress.

Professor Li Jiatao from the Business School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, presented on "International Business Research in Emerging Markets: Current Trends and Future Directions", analyzing aspects such as international changes, digital economy, corporate strategies in emerging market enterprises, and institutional theories. Professor Lv Wenzhen from the Business School, City University of Hong Kong, shared insights on "Disruptive Events in International Business: Challenges and Opportunities", focusing on the challenges and opportunities presented by these events. Wang Yimin, professor from the School of Management and Director of the Strategic Management Research Center, Shandong University, presided over the session.

Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on the theme of “China and the World”to further explore the relationship between China and the international community. Key topics included the essence, boundaries, key issues, and future trends of international business management, as well as the name, nature, vision and mission of international business management organizations. Professor Lv Ping from the School of Economics and Management, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Wei Tian from the School of Management, Fudan University, Professor Xie Zhenzhen from the Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, and Associate Professor Xie Luqun from the Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University respectively delivered speeches on behalf of their groups. The session was presided over by Professor Deng Ziliang from the National School of Development, Peking University.

Professor Bu Maoliang from the School of Business, Nanjing University, emphasized the importance of academic collaboration, and shared examples to encourage further cooperative endeavors among Chinese International Business scholars. Professor Wu Xianming from the School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University, highlighted the necessity of theoretical innovation in China's International Business discipline, advocating for facilitating natural development, expanding its influence, and exploring new theories. Professor Xie En from the School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, discussed the challenges and opportunities within International Business, calling for enhanced legitimacy and through interdisciplinary collaboration and high-quality research to support decision-makers. Professor Xu Hui from the Nankai University School of Business emphasized the diversity of Chinese enterprises' internationalization through case studies. He explored the internationalization journey of Chinese enterprises from the perspectives of born-global digital companies and large state-owned enterprises, highlighting their relationship with the development of the International Business discipline. Yan Haifeng, Vice President of East China University of Science and Technology, spoke on the demand for International Business discipline from theoretical and practical perspectives, as well as the significant challenges faced by the International Business discipline, especially its legitimacy issue. Yan urged scholars to conduct research in accordance with enterprise and national needs, enhancing the influence of the organizations. Professor Zhou Nan from the School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, shared strategies for enhancing the legitimacy of the International Business field. The session was presided over by Professor Wu Changqi.

Experts and scholars from universities across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan focused on cutting-edge topics, and conducted in-depth discussions on the new trends, challenges, and response strategies in international business management.
