On the afternoon of July 10th, the School of Management at Shandong University held a seminar with domestic and international experts and faculty members.
The seminar featured the following experts and faculty members: Professor Huang Xu from Hong Kong Baptist University, Professor Jia Liangding from Nanjing University, Associate Professor Jiang Han from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Professor Liang Jian from Tongji University, Professor Liu Wu from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Shen Wei from Arizona State University, Associate Professor Song Zhaoli from the National University of Singapore, Professor Zhang Zhen from Southern Methodist University, Professor Zhang Zhixue from Peking University, and Professor Zhao Yanfei from the University of Oxford.
Attendees from Shandong University included Dean Wu Changqi, Vice Dean Zhang Jianghua, professors Chen Zhijun, Wang Yimin, Xu Yuehua, and other faculty representatives, as well as IACMR Executive Directors Zhang Wei and Zhao Xiao.
Professor Wu Changqi introduced the history and recent developments of the university and the School of Management. He invited the experts to offer suggestions on topics including discipline development, localization and internationalization of research, and the international training of graduate students. The attending experts, drawing on the development experiences of their respective institutions, provided valuable suggestions on areas such as academic exchange and curriculum design. Among them, Professor Zhang Zhixue shared the development journey of Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, while Professors Huang Xu and Liu Wu shared insights based on the development models of universities in Hong Kong, providing valuable recommendations for the advancement of Shandong University’s School of Management.
During the meeting, young faculty members posed questions to the experts about academic research and career development. Professor Liu Wu suggested that young faculty members set aside fixed times to handle both research and administrative duties, drawing from his experience. Regarding the balance between the diversity and focus of research areas, Professors Zhang Zhixue and Zhang Zhen provided advice based on their observations and experiences in academia. For expanding research fields and directions, Associate Professor Jiang Han and Professor Huang Xu recommended a gradual transition to new areas, encouraging faculty to communicate with experts from different fields to better explore new research opportunities. The experts also provided detailed answers to other questions from their own experiences.
