On the morning of May 29th, Associate Professor Wu Yajun of Guanghua School of Management, Peking University was invited to give an academic lecture titled "Theory, Practice and Reflection of Harvard Case Study Method". Professor Chen Zhijun of the School of Management, Shandong University hosted the lecture and Professor Xu Yuehua, Director of the Department of Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship attended the activity.
Focusing on the theme, Associate Professor Wu shared his views on the development history of Harvard Case Study Methodology and Harvard Business School, the main contributors to Harvard Case Study Methodology and their research methodologies, as well as the case study and text writing in the worldly academic perspective. Associate Professor Wu first shared his relevant experience and practice in the field and then introduced the development history of the Harvard Case Study Methodology and Harvard Business School in detail. Secondly, Professor Wu introduced the core figures of the Harvard Case Study Methodology (e.g. Wallace B. Donham, Alfred D. Chandler, Jr., Kenneth R. Andrews, Robert S. Kaplan, Clayton M. Christensen, and Michael Tushman) and their core research methodologies. Associate Professor Wu concluded his lecture with a lecture on case study research and text writing from a worldly academic perspective. With the Huawei's case study, Associate Professor Wu explained the methodology of case study and text writing and shared his uniquely developed Huawei Business Leadership Model (HW-BLM Framework).
Wu Yajun is an associate professor and doctoral supervisor in the Organization and Strategy Management Department at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, and also serves as the vice chairman/secretary-general of the Strategic Management Committee of the China Management Science Society, and the vice director of the Center for Chinese Enterprise Management Research at Peking University. His main research areas include strategic management thoughts, strategic planning, strategic management of local enterprises, university strategy, and environmental economy and sustainable development. He has led two programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China: Transformation, Strategic Complexity, and Sustained Growth: A Study on the Strategic Models of Outstanding Local Enterprises in China and Strategic Decision-making Models and Performance Impacts of Chinese Enterprises in Transition: A Theoretical and Empirical Study. He has conducted in-depth research on the strategic management and innovation of Chinese local companies such as Huawei, Lenovo, Alibaba, Haidilao, etc. Several papers have been published in journals such as Management World and Economic Science. He was awarded the Outstanding Paper Award for the 10th Anniversary of Nankai Business Review (1998-2008) and his books include Strategic Choices Toward Prosperity: Reflections and Seeking at Peking University and Economic Theory of Environmental Taxes and Analysis of its Application to China.
