The International Conference on Intellectual Property and Innovation, co-hosted by the Olin Business School of Washington University (St. Louis), the School of Management of Zhejiang University, the Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, and the School of Management of Shandong University, was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province from May 25th to 26th. Centered on the theme of "Corporate Strategy and Policy Challenges in a Rapidly Changing World", the conference gathered scholars, researchers, and business executives from all over the world to discuss the latest research results and practical experiences in the field of intellectual property and innovation.
Wu Xiaobo, Director of the Department of Social Sciences of Zhejiang University, Zhao Minyuan, Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, and Wu Changqi, Dean of the School of Management of Shandong University delivered opening speeches respectively. Huang Can, Vice Dean of the School of Management, Zhejiang University, presided over the opening ceremony.
During the keynote speeches, many experts and scholars shared their research results and working experience on the cutting-edge issues of innovation and intellectual property, and Professor Huang, Professor Zhao, and Dean Wu presided over the session successively. In his report entitled "Overtake and Catch Up: Window of Opportunity", Professor Wu discussed in depth how enterprises can capture and utilize the window of opportunity in the global competition. Professor Shaker Zahra of the University of Minnesota analyzed the impact of intellectual property protection enforcement on corporate performance from the perspective of multi-country studies. Professor Michael Leiblein of Ohio State University, explored how existing enterprises can strategically reposition themselves under uncertainty. Professor Tong Wenfeng of the University of Colorado Boulder, analyzed in-depth how the IPO of a company affects the innovation activities of its employees. Ruud Peters, CEO of Peters Intellectual Property Consulting and former Chief Intellectual Property Officer of Philips Group, gave a speech entitled "European Standard Essential Patent Rules and Implications". Professor Li Jiatao from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology discussed the impact of changes in the international trade environment on the subsequent innovation of Chinese enterprises. Professor Catherine Magelssen of London Business School identified the separation between R&D activities of multinational enterprises, and economic ownership and legal ownership of IPRs.
