Professor Zhao Shuming from Business School, Nanjing University Invited to Give an Academic Report

On the afternoon of May 13th, Professor Zhao Shuming of the Business School, Nanjing University, was invited to give an academic report titled “How to Manage Yourself”. Fu Yanzhi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Management, Shandong University, hosted the report, and Tang Guiyao, Vice Dean of the School, attended the activity.



Professor Zhao presented his report in terms of Peter Drucker’s Management Thinking across Time and Space, how to manage yourself, and his dream of returning to China, management insights, and life reflections. He first explained some key points of management, such as its definition, its process, its functions, and its results, and then combined with Peter Drucker's thinking, he elaborated on the origin of management thinking and the three cores of Drucker’s Management Thinking. In the report, Professor Zhao focused on three aspects: understanding yourself, managing relationships, and managing the rest of your life. He also showed the research findings of his team, introduced the application of the project, and shared his life experience of returning to China for management research. At the end of the report, he concluded with several insights and reflections, providing valuable life experiences and career guidance for the learners.


Zhao Shuming is the Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences, Honorary Dean of the Business School, Dean of the Xingzhi College, Nanjing University, Doctoral Supervisor, and Academic Leader of the National Key Discipline of Enterprise Management of Nanjing University. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for Professional Education of Business Administration of the Ministry of Education, the Third President of the International Association for Chinese Management Research, the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Management, Distinguished Vice President of the Human Resources Development of China, and Lifelong Honorary President of Jiangsu Human Resource Management Academy. He was named as the First and Second-level Scholar for the “Millions of Talent Projects National Candidates” in 1997 and has published more than 20 academic books and 500 papers, among which the book Research on Human Resource Management was awarded the 13th China National Book Award and the first prize at the 4th Outstanding Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences Research in Chinese Universities and Colleges by the Ministry of Education of China in 2006, and the book A Study of Professional Competence of Chinese Managers was awarded as the first prize of the 11th Outstanding Achievements of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangsu Province in 2011.
