"Actions Speak Louder than Words: Environmental Law Enforcement and Audit Fees" takes audit fees as a starting point, and the establishment of China's environmental courts as an exogenous shock to explore the externality brought by the improvement of judicial efficiency. From an auditor's perspective, the study responds to the current widespread concern about environmental issues and the consequences of implementing top-level policy design, and not only reveals the potential impact of judicial reforms on corporate auditing and financial transparency but also provides valuable insights for understanding the effects of environmental policies in practice. Assistant Professor Wu is the first author of the study, Professor You Jiaxing from the School of Management of Xiamen University is the corresponding author, and Professor Luo Le from Macquarie University in Australia is the co-author. Shandong University is the first author affiliation of the study, which was funded by the Major Program of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation. Review of Accounting Studies is recognized as one of the top five international journals in the field of accounting and is listed by Financial Times as one of the world's 50 most influential business academic journals (FT 50), with an impact factor of 5.005 in the past five years.
"Competition Behind Competition: State-Sponsored Awards, Political Tournaments, and Corporate Participation in Poverty Alleviation in China" utilizes government-awarded poverty alleviation awards to test inter-organizational spillover theory. Specifically, taking listed firms as samples, the study examines the conditions under which nationally awarded prizes can incentivize non-awarded firms to increase their spending on poverty alleviation. The study finds that when government officials face pressure from competitors, they are more motivated to emulate their peers and incentivize firms to increase poverty alleviation through the awarding of prizes. The findings of the study help to add to the literature on awarding prizes and inter-organizational spillovers, and also provide theoretical guidance on how the state can encourage firms to address major challenges. Assistant Professor Wu and Professor You are the co-corresponding authors of the study, which was also co-authored by Professor Zheng Weiting of the University of New South Wales in Australia, Professor Ni Na of Lingnan University in Hong Kong, and Professor Luo Xiaowei of INSEAD. Shandong University is a co-corresponding author affiliation, and the study was funded by the NSSFC, the NSFC and the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, etc. Journal of Management is ranked third in the field of management, and first in the field of applied psychology. It is listed by Financial Times as one of the world's 50 most influential business academic journals (FT 50) and is a four-star ABS journal with an impact factor of 9.056.
