On May 10th, Professor Yang Zhi, Dean of the School of Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was invited to give an academic lecture at the School of Management, Shandong University, and had a discussion with members of the Center for International Cooperation and Accreditation and Shandong Institute of Talent Development Strategy. Fu Yanzhi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Tang Guiyao, Vice Dean of the School and also the Executive Dean of the Shandong Institute of Talent Development Strategy attended the event.
The lecture, entitled “Technological Novelty and Technology Transfer of University Patents: Evidence from China”, was composed of research background, research questions, literature reviews, theoretical hypotheses, research methods, and research contributions. The research discussed the double-edged sword effect of patent novelty on the technology transfer of university patents and reviewed the relevant theories of patent novelty. Besides, taking the Chinese university patents from the Incopat database as a sample, the research examined the moderating effects of collaborative innovation, strategic emerging industries, and marketization indexes, and further elaborated on its theoretical contributions and implications for management practice. The research won the Best Paper Award in the TIM division of the 2024 AOM. After the lecture, teachers and students carried out exchanges in terms of the research methods, impact mechanisms, and potential directions for future research.
In the afternoon, Professor Yang had a meeting with the International Cooperation and Accreditation Center. He said that the School is supposed to take full advantage of the AACSB international accreditation, find out the development bottlenecks, and set up an accreditation leading group and a faculty working group to enhance the level of curriculum construction and ensure the quality of teaching and research.
“Promoting the Four Chain (Innovation, Industry, Fund and Talents) Integration, Assisting the High-quality Development of New Quality Productivity” Talent Salon of Shandong Province Institute of Talent Development Strategy (24th) invited Professor Yang and Secretary Fu to make guiding exchanges. Hu Dongqing, Research Associate Professor of the Institute, presented the research on the Four Chain Integration and Development in Shandong Province and introduced the current research framework and content.
Professor Yang Zhi is the Dean of the School of Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, President and Editor of the Chinese Journal of Management, the Chief Expert of major programs supported by the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), Executive Director of the Chinese Society of Technology Economics, Director of the Chinese Academy of Management, Delegate of the Ninth and Tenth Congress of Hubei Association for Science & Technology, and Vice Chairman of the Hubei Society for Technological Innovation and Management Modernization. His main research areas include innovation management, corporate strategic management and organizational theory, etc. He has published more than 30 papers in journals such as Economic Research Journal, Management World, Journal of Comparative Economics, China Economic Review, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, and Asia Pacific Journal of Management. He has participated in and presided over 7 programs including major programs of the NSSFC, and key and general programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has also participated in several strategic initiatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and major programs of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League.
