Open Source Innovation by Professor Zhang Yuming’s Team Selected as Recommended Book by Chinese Social Sciences Net

Recently, Open Source Innovation, which was written by Professor Zhang Yuming’s team from the School of Management, Shandong University was selected into the list of recommended books (Issue 3, 2024) launched by Chinese Social Sciences Net in collaboration with ten publishing organizations. The issue presented a total of 11 books covering the fields of history, philosophy, psychology, literature, national security, digital economy (arithmetic), as well as scientific and technological innovation.



Open Source Innovation was a phased achievement of the Research on the Construction of Open Source Science and Technology Innovation System, a major program of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) undertaken by Professor Zhang as the chief expert. The book elaborated on the model of open source innovation in the new era from its concept, connotation, characteristics, nature, ecological subject and system, operational mechanism, business model, existing problems and governance, etc. Zhang Xinyue, a doctoral student from the School, is one of the editors.


Supported by literature, data, and examples, the book provided a systematic theoretic framework and practical experience. It served as a guide for the open source innovation of enterprises and other innovative entities, a behavioral guideline for developers, an operational scheme for open source communities, as well as a reference for policy formulation by governments.


The book was applicable to individuals majoring in humanities and social sciences including innovation, management, economics, and sociology. Moreover, it stood as the theoretical basis and key reference for enterprises and innovative entrepreneurs to participate in open source business, and for governments and authorities at all levels to formulate policies. The book was written with the great support from the research institute of Inspur, Haier Smart Home, CDHT HI-TECH, etc.


Zhang Yuming is a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Accounting of the School of Management, Shandong University. His main research areas include corporate finance and intelligent accounting, the innovation and development of SMEs, the sharing economy and science and technology innovation, etc. He is an academic board member of the Research Center for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University, an expert in the working group on drafting national standards for the sharing economy, an editor of Management World, etc, and a chief expert of the Major Program of the NSSFC (twice). He has published 22 monographs, among which Sharing Economics was selected for the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the NSSFC (2018). He has also published 8 textbooks including Intelligent Accounting, and more than 200 papers in Accounting Research, International Review of Financial Analysis, etc. He has won the Third Prize of Outstanding Achievement Awards of the Seventh Research of Colleges and Universities (Management) by the Ministry of Education, the First Prize of the Shandong Province Social Science Major Achievement Awards, and other awards more than 10 times. The postgraduate students under his supervision were awarded the Presidential Scholarship and National Postgraduate Scholarship nearly 20 times. He has also served as the director of the audit committee of the board of directors of more than 10 listed companies, such as Weichai Heavy Machinery Co, Ltd.
