On the morning of April 22nd, Professor Kevin Zhou Zheng and his doctoral student Dong Meitong from the HKU Business School of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) were invited to visit the School of Management of Shandong University to give academic lectures. Dean of the School of Management, Professor Wu Changqi, Professor Chen Zhijun, Professor Wang Yimin, and Associate Professor Tian Xiaocong attended the lecture, which was enthusiastically attended by teachers and students of the School. Professor Xu Yuehua from the Department of Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship hosted the lecture.
Professor Zhou shared his thoughts on the topic of "Innovation Development and China Strategy Research" and posed the research question: How does urban air pollution affect the green innovation of local enterprises? He explained the impact of urban air pollution on progressive and radical green innovation based on the pressure effect and damage effect, and explored the moderating effects of green finance and employee welfare, using the sample data of listed companies in China's heavily polluted industries in the fixed-effects model and the broken-point regression test.
Doctoral student Dong Meitong, titled "Inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Technological Innovation of Local Firms: Differential Impacts on Progressive and Radical Innovation", reported on the research background, literature review, theoretical assumptions, research methodology, and research contributions, explaining the impacts of FDI on progressive and radical innovations in terms of the efficiency effect and the free-rider motivation effect and explored the moderating effect of technology gap and patent infringement.
After the lecture, the participating teachers and students had an in-depth interactive exchange on the research methodology, research data, and other mechanisms affecting green innovation.
Professor Kevin Zhou Zheng is Chang-Jiang Scholar Chair Professor, Professor of Strategy/International Business at HKU Business School, the University of Hong Kong. Professor Zhou received a B.E. (with honors) in Automatic Control and an M.S. in Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, and a Ph.D. specializing in Marketing and Strategy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has published numerous papers in prestigious journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Science, and among others. Professor Zhou currently serves as the senior editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Management, associate editor of Journal of International Marketing, editorial board member of Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies. He also served the Panel Member of Business Studies Panel, HK Research Grants Council. Professor Zhou has rich experience in teaching Competitive Strategy, International Business, International Marketing, Business Research, Marketing Management for BBA, MBA, IMBA, and EMBA programs at Virginia Tech, University of Hong Kong, and University of North Carolina. He has rich consulting experiences working with companies such as Federal Pharmaceutical, 3M, Riche Monde, and TCH. He received the Outstanding Teacher Awards for IMBA Teaching at HKU.
Dong Meitong is a doctoral student in the Department of Strategy/International Business at HKU Business School, the University of Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the School of Management, Shandong University. Her research focuses on innovation and multinational strategies of emerging market firms, with particular attention to the interaction between institutions and corporate strategies. She has published papers in English and Chinese journals such as Global Strategy Journal (2x), International Business Review, Journal of International Marketing, and China Soft Science Magazine, and presented papers at prestigious conferences, such as the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM), the Academy of International Business (AI), and the International Association for China Management Research (IACMR), and was awarded the Doctoral Research Progress Award by the HKU in 2023.
