On the evening of April 13th, the second lecture of “the Chinese Path to Modernization” series was held at the Central Campus. Yang Huixin, a Distinguished Professor of Shandong University and Director of the Institute of Industrial Organization and Enterprise Organization, Shandong University, gave an academic report titled “Integration of Advanced Manufacturing and Modern Service Industry Promotes High-Quality Development of Manufacturing”. Zheng Jingbin, Dean of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of Shandong University, hosted the report.
Professor Yang introduced the research background of the integration of “two industries”. She emphasized that China has entered a stage of high-quality development, and the quality-driven development of manufacturing is not only the fundamental requirement for the high-quality development of the society but also the sole pathway to redouble our efforts to upgrade China from a manufacturer of quantity to one of quality.
She gave a brief introduction to the concept of “new quality productive forces”, and believed that in the current industrial context, industrial integration is the vital feature and inevitable trend of modern industrial development. Besides, the deep integration of advanced manufacturing and modern service industry, which is empowered by new quality productive forces, is an indispensable measure to realize high-quality development of manufacturing. Introducing the relevant documents issued by the national ministries and commissions in recent years, she focused on the development of new forms and models of integrated development, exploration of new pathways to integrated development in key industries and areas, innovative development of service-oriented manufacturing, and the development objectives and direction of the manufacturing service industry, etc. She indicated that a clear and systematic understanding of key concepts, such as the integration of “two industries”, service-oriented manufacturing (manufacturing servitization), manufacturing service industry, high-quality development of the manufacturing, and the promotion of high-quality development of manufacturing by the integration of “two industries”, is gradually developed in both practical and academic sectors.
Professor Yang also elaborated on the main work of her team in the field of the integration of “two industries” in recent years from the perspective of practice. With the goal of promoting international competitiveness of China’s manufacturing, especially advanced manufacturing, her team is committed to summarizing new forms and models and exploring the new way that integrating “two industries” promotes high-quality development of manufacturing. They will also keep abreast of the “Chinese approach” and its practice of “two industries” integrated development with new forms and models.
In addition, Professor Yang answered the audience’s questions based on her practical experience. There were more than 120 teachers and students attending the on-site report, and an additional three hundred audience participated online through the parallel session and Tencent Meeting & VooV Meeting.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Shandong University organized a series of academic lectures on the theme of “the Chinese Path to Modernization”, and invited 10 experts and scholars to carry out academic exchanges on topics from different disciplines, such as politics, economics, management, jurisprudence, and Marxist theory, contributing its wisdom and strength to the construction of China’s independent knowledge system and making China a great modern socialist country in every dimension.
