School of Management Conducted Cross-Border E-Commerce Thematic Dialogue


On April 2nd, the Cross-Border E-Commerce Thematic Dialogue of the Fourth Weifang Development Conference, co-sponsored by the School of Management of Shandong University, the Bureau of Commerce of Weifang City and the Administrative Committee of Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone, was held in Weifang, Shandong. Lin Yuan, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shandong Sub-Council; Lu Yanhua, Vice Principal of Shandong University; and Di Bo, Vice Mayor of the Weifang Municipal People's Government attended the event and delivered speeches.


In the opening speech, Vice Principal Lu said that cross-border e-commerce, as a new fast-developing form of industry, would surely add strong impetus to the development of digital trade and the formation of a new development paradigm. The Shandong University-Weifang Cross-border Trade (E-commerce) Industrial Research Institute, the first one in Shandong, has built a professional platform for talent training and resource sharing for the e-commerce industry, promoted the deep integration of talent chain, education chain, industry chain and innovation chain, and will continue to cultivate and strengthen new momentum for the development of digital technology and digital trade.



At the conference, Wu Changqi, Dean of the School of Management, Shandong University, gave a speech, China (Shandong) Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Development Report in 2023. Lin Yuan, Lu Yanhua, Zang Yaogang(Director, Foreign Trade Division, Department of Commerce of Shandong Province) and Di Bo jointly started the launch ceremony.


The Report deeply analyses the development status quo, confronting challenges and future opportunities of the cross-border e-commerce industry of Shandong Province and the whole country in the background of the globalization trend and the rapid development of the digital economy. The Report also provides valuable information and insights for policymakers, business operators, academic researchers and other people who are concerned about the development of cross-border e-commerce, helping to jointly facilitate the development of the cross-border e-commerce industry.



In the keynote report part, Zhao Hong, Professor of Peking University and the former Appellate Body judge of the World Trade Organization gave a keynote report entitled “Multilateral and Regional Rules of the Digital Trade and the National Policies Comparison of Cross-Border E-Commerce”; and Cui Geng, Professor and Chief Expert of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Tenured Professor of Lingnan University and Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Branch, Academy of International Business, gave a keynote report entitled “Cross-Border E-Commerce: Driving Force of Transformation of Export Manufacturing Industry and New Path to Enterprise Internationalization”.



In the round-table dialogue part, relevant leaders, experts, scholars, and enterprise leaders focused on “digital trade to promote high-quality opening-up”, and carried out discussions and exchanges and proposed suggestions. Tang Guiyao, Vice Dean of the School, participated in the dialogue. The part was presided over by Ren Rong, Associate Professor of the School and Vice Director of the Shandong University-Weifang Cross-border Trade (E-commerce) Industrial Research Institute.


About 170 people attended the event, including faculty from Shandong University, leaders from the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shandong Sub-Council and relevant departments of Weifang City, experts and scholars from well-known universities at home and abroad and guests from the cross-border e-commerce industry .
