On March 16th, the 2024 Global Research Award of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) was announced. Liu Zhixue, a 2019 doctoral student from the School of Management of Shandong University, won the title of IPMA Graduate Research Award Winner 2024 for his research achievement "Cooperation in Uncertain Environments: The Impact of Consistent Stakeholder Behavior on Risk Management in Collaborative Innovation Projects". Liu Zhixue is the first Chinese University-trained graduate to receive the award since its inception.
Collaborative innovation projects are important organizational forms for carrying out the breakthrough of critical techniques, promoting major scientific and technological innovation, and advancing the transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements into new quality productive forces. Under the guidance of Professor Ding Ronggui from the School, Liu Zhixue conducted joint research on the organizational governance behavior of risk control in collaborative innovation projects with Associate Professor Wang Lei from the School, Professor Xinyi Song from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Chairman Song Rui of Ruihe Anhui Project Management Group Co., Ltd., with the support of the International Natural Science Foundation's General Programs "Research on Governance Network of Backward Collaborative Innovation Projects" and "Research on Risk Response Decision Making for Digitalized Scenario of Project ". The study found that the consistent behavior of stakeholders effectively improves the risk management effectiveness of collaborative innovation projects. The study is of great significance for enhancing the risk response ability of collaborative innovation projects and improving the stability and success rate of collaborative innovation.
The International Project Management Association (IPMA), established in 1965, is an international project management organization, with its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is one of the earliest and most influential international project management professional organizations in the world, with a total of 72 national or regional member organizations. The IPMA Research Award is the most widely recognized research award in the international project management community, aiming at selecting outstanding research achievements to promote the development of project management. The award is divided into four categories: Research Award, Young Researcher Award, Graduate Research Award, and Research Achievement Award. Furthermore, the Graduate Research Award is set up for current graduate students, usually with one winner per year (allowing the bye). In 2024, IPMA has received high-quality applications from 17 countries and regions, including the US, the UK and other countries. The IPMA evaluating experts committee conducted multiple rounds of independent and professional evaluations on research questions, research processes, research results, and research teams, thus recommending the final winners in each category. Liu Zhixue is the only winner of the IPMA Graduate Research Award in 2024. The 2024 Global Research Award Ceremony of IPMA will be held on April 20th at the IPMA Research Conference in Maryland, United States.
Liu Zhixue, a doctoral student enrolled in 2019 majoring in Management Science and Engineering from the School of Management, with a research direction in project management. He has participated in management practices of major engineering projects all over the world, including the Beijing Daxing International Airport project, the Ningxia Coal-to-liquids project of China Shenhua Energy Company Limited, and the PAYRA Power Station project in Bangladesh and other projects, accumulating rich experience; He also actively participates in international academic conferences on project management, constantly broadening his research horizons, as well as establishing cooperation relationships with project management teams from well-known universities, and keeping up with the latest developments in project management research.
