Salon for Women’s Growth Organized by the School of Management

On March 8th, on the occasion of the 114th International Women’s Day, the “Salute to Her Power” Salon for Women’s Growth, hosted by the School of Management and co-organized by the Shandong University Alumni Office, was held in the Alumni Hall. The salon invited Chen Junyi, a Master of Music Therapy from China Conservatory of Music and a National Second-grade Psychological Counsellor, to give a lecture titled “Taking Care of Emotions with Music”. The event was hosted by Zhou Lin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and teachers and students from the School and the Alumni Hall attended the salon.

The salon started from four aspects: feeling music, the “healthy” function of music, music experience, and “music +” growth. After the warm-up game, Counsellor Chen played music containing five different emotions: joy, anger, sadness, nervousness, and fear, and used these five tones to introduce the five emotions and the five internal organs, and combined them with the physiological mechanisms of emotions to explain the connection between music and human emotions, pointing out the “healthy” functions of music in the physiological, psychological, interpersonal, and aesthetic dimensions. In addition, Counsellor Chen shared the concept of music therapy and its application areas. In the “Music Safety Island Experience” session, everyone followed the music into their “safety island”, experienced relaxation and comfort, and used coloured pencils to draw their “safety island” in their mind and show it to each other. At the end of the activity, Counsellor Chen shared some song lists that can help regulate emotions and relax the body and mind and encouraged everyone to create their supportive song list and use music to take care of their emotions.

The Salon is a special event for International Women’s Day, exploring the deep connection between music and women’s emotions. Through the event, it is hoped that all women could be encouraged to explore their inner world and find new perspectives on their emotional care.

On the same day, in order to show the power of women in the new era, the Student New Media Centre of the School carried out the activity of “Tearing off Labels” with the theme of “Her Power, Unlimited”, which attracted many teachers and students of the School to participate. They tore the prejudiced labels on the exhibition boards and replaced them with sincere wishes for women and Women’s Day from the message box, encouraging women to be brave and create their beautiful life, and stimulating more “her power”.
