Recently, the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China announced the selection results of the “Eighth Typical Project of Precise Poverty Alleviation for Colleges and Universities Directly under the MOE”. The “Precise Poverty Alleviation for the Integration of Agriculture, Industry and Service Sector Project of Rice Paddy Park in Queshan County, Henan Province” declared by the School of Management of Shandong University was awarded as the “Precise Poverty Alleviation Project”. A total of 61 typical projects declared by 53 colleges and universities directly under the MOE were selected, and two projects from Shandong University were selected.
The Project is a case of the “Think Tank +” and “Brand + Culture and Tourism” empowerment models, which were formed by the School in its precise poverty alleviation for Queshan County, Henan Province. In the precise poverty alleviation for Liuzhuang Town of Queshan County, the School gives full play to its disciplinary advantages, combining the management disciplines with project demands, the tourism think tank with local resources, and the social resources such as alumni with industrial projects, to deeply connect with the local needs. Starting from the actual needs of Queshan County, especially Liuzhuang Town, and based on the economic and social development, industrial structure, and resource advantages of Liuzhuang Town, the School will carry out precise poverty alleviation in the fields of tourism planning, industrial planning, industry chain cultivation and talent cultivation, combining with its strengths.
In 2023, a team of experts from the Department of Culture and Tourism Studies of the School of Management went to Queshan County four times to actively carry out precise poverty alleviation. Based on in-depth research, the expert team carried out several special activities in Queshan County, including a seminar on “Regional Brand Development in Queshan County”, and a training seminar on “Rural Revitalization and Integration of Culture and Tourism”. With the direction of regional tourism and the actual situation of Queshan County, the team has successively completed the Master Plan of Rice Paddy Field Eco-tourism Area of Liuzhuang Town (2021-2030), the Rural Revitalization Suggestion Report of Liuzhuang Town in Henan Province, and the Overall Planning of Regional Public Brand of Queshan County, and promoted the implementation of these development programs to provide a platform for the rapid development of cultural tourism and industrial economy in Liuzhuang with the “Think Tank +” assistance mode.
The Project is one of the important results of the School of Management Precise Poverty Alleviation. Starting from the completion of the Master Plan (2021-2030), Professor Wang Guangzhen of the Department and his team have conducted in-depth research on the Rice Paddy Field four times in 2023, guiding the landscape planning and design, the industrial functions, marketing and publicity, and the monetization of the business model. By giving full play to the advantages of the culture and tourism think tank, the expert team of the School combines professional planning and development guidance, and carries out precise poverty alleviation for a long time, which fully reflects the professional ability and sense of social responsibility of the School in the field of culture and tourism.
Going forward, the School will continue to strengthen its political commitment, give full play to its disciplinary advantages, deepen the existing helping results, constantly innovate the working mechanism, and actively explore new modes of precise poverty alleviation from universities with the characteristics of Shandong University, contributing more strength to the rural revitalization of Queshan County.
