On the afternoon of December 15th, Professor Jia Fansheng of the Ocean University of China was invited to visit the School of Management to share an academic report entitled “Name, Identity and Agency: Evidence from A-share Listed Companies”. The report is one of the series of lectures on academic disciplines and academic innovation in the School, which is attended by young teachers and master and doctoral students of the School.
Professor Jia pointed out that China has a strong and long history of name culture, and names are of great significance to Chinese people, but few scholars have studied how names affect individual behavior. In his opinion, cultural economics is getting more and more attention, and “culture and economy” and “culture and finance” are becoming important research topics. However, the existing research remains in the vague path of “macro-culture-(individual) economic behavior”, so it is necessary to expand the existing analysis framework to “cultural tradition-individual cultural imprint-(individual) economic behavior”. Afterwards, he gave a report on the research idea, sample selection, variable construction, model design and article contribution, and discussed the alternative interpretation and the article layout with the students and teachers.
After the report, Professor Lu Junwei of the School and Professor Jia exchanged views on future academic activities. The report not only provided the attending teachers and students with new thinking and exploration direction on culture and economics and management, but also broadened the academic bridge between schools in the province, which is a practical exploration to promote the sister schools in the province to carry out multi-level exchanges, establish a long-term joint learning mechanism, and achieve win-win development.
