Song Yuxiang, Senior Partner of Shanghai City Development Law Firm (Beijing) Gave a Lecture

On December 2nd, Song Yuxiang, Senior Partner of Shanghai City Development Law Firm (Beijing), was invited to give a lecture on “International Engineering Risk Prevention and Control Practice” for the students of the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program of the School. The lecture is the sixth in the series of engineering management lectures of the School, hosted by Associate Professor Wang Lei, Director of the MEM program.

Lawyer Song, with rich practical experience and profound theoretical skills, analyzed the current situation and challenges of risk management of foreign contracted projects in the field of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. He pointed out that outsourcing projects is the main part of China’s foreign economic cooperation, accounting for about 3/5 of the total foreign economy. However, due to the low price of contracting, complex transaction mode and grim situation of compliance, Chinese central enterprises are facing a lot of risk management challenges. Starting from political risks, policy and legal risks, commercial risks, local composition requirements, major unfavorable geological conditions, environmental risks, etc., and combining with the actual cases of international projects, he explained the potential threats of various types of risks and the corresponding preventive measures. Based on the deep analysis of the actual cases, he encouraged participants to flexibly design a systematic risk control program in practice with profound experience. Finally, Lawyer Song provided forward-looking and operable suggestions for future international engineering risk control, carried out interactive exchanges with teachers and students, and answered their questions.
