From October 21st to November 11th, Professor Guo Xiaolong from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) was invited to conduct a series of courses on “Academic Paper Writing in Management Studies” for the School of Management. Zhang Jianghua, Vice Dean of the School, presided over the opening ceremony and summarized the end of courses, and more than 50 faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students of the School took part in the series of courses.
Professor Guo combined his experience of writing and reviewing papers for many years and taught the writing method in four modules. The first module is the writing of title, abstract, and keywords in the field of management science; the second module is about the introduction and literature review; the third module is about the model construction, analysis and discussion; and the fourth module is about the conclusion and suggestions. After the students’ discussion and presentation, Professor Guo taught the methods of effectively dealing with review comments in the process of paper revision from the interpretation of review comments, response paradigm, and example analysis. Besides, three papers were selected as study materials for each course, and the students had targeted discussions on the papers. Vice Dean Zhang said that he hoped teachers and students could get a comprehensive improvement in paper writing, paper submission and literature reading.
The course provides a platform to learn and communicate and lays the foundation for the School to offer courses related to the enhancement of postgraduates’ research ability in the future.
