Recently, the Fifth Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition of Shandong University was held in the final round, three projects of the School of Management won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
The “Children’s Garden” Dream Building Summer Camp Project, a psychological counseling project for orphans and poor children, won the gold award. The project, together with the Orphan Group of Linyi Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth, a national advanced group in poverty alleviation, and the Beijing Guangmingdeng Charity Foundation, focuses on the psychological needs and growing pains of orphans and poor children, and centers on the service tenet of “Empowering with Love, Enlightening Wisdom, and Warming the Heart”. Through offering short-term diversified and interest-based psychological counselling courses and long-term “one-to-one” spiritual support, the project focuses on “tolerance, gratitude, cooperation, determination and development” and promotes the multi-dimensional development of orphans and poor children. Since 2021, the project has taken Yinan County, Linyi City as a service pilot, and has expanded to 13 service sites including Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Dalian, Langfang, Rizhao, Zibo, etc. It has been selected as a group of the “Colourful Holidays” volunteer team of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League, reported by Shandong TV, iqilu.com, and other media.
“Nurturing Young Saplings”, a project to take care of the physical hygiene and health of young people, won the silver award. The project, focusing on the two main lines of “helping objects + volunteers”, takes “E-education & M-material support & P-physical health” as the core elements, launches the “EMP Photosynthetic Respiration Double Helix Support System”, and establishes a short-term “light energy supply station” and a long-term “energy sending station”. In the short term, the project carries out activities such as one-hour talks on puberty and themed art exhibitions for young people in Jinan, and guides them to understand the characteristics and structure of their bodies through the approach of “theoretical education and practical application”. In the long term, the project works with Qilu Hospital of Shandong University to set up an “online + offline” consultation and health treatment platform. The project provides hygiene and care kits, and focuses on the realization of volunteers’ values and empowerment, to promote the development of inter-subjects in the same direction. The project won the Bronze Award in the Shandong “Five Groups of Service Activities” Civilized Practice Volunteer Service Project Competition.
The Youth Science and Technology Volunteer Service Team - Science and Technology Volunteer Service Project won the bronze award. On behalf of Shandong University, the team was successfully selected as the National College Student Science and Technology Volunteer Service Demonstration Team. With the sentiment of “popularizing science for the public”, the team aims to take science and technology volunteer service by college students as a practical measure to build up a platform for education, contacting the grassroots, and serving the economic and social development. With more than ten times of pre-service training, the team has continuously improved its professionalism, explored new paths of service practice in the mode of “Pairing with Universities and Science and Technology Museums”, and established cooperation with Shandong Science and Technology Museum, Science and Technology Museum of Shandong University, Shandong Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Science Museum, Jinan Zoo, etc. It also carried out science and technology propaganda activities of “New Youth Offers Service in Science and Technology” for more than ten times, with more than 600 volunteers and more than 1,200 service hours. The deeds were reported by several media, awarded the 2022 Jinan “May Fourth” Typical Youth Volunteering Advanced Projects, and included in the Shandong University Volunteer Service Key Construction Projects.
