On July 18, 2023, to implement the strategy of academic development and servicing Shandong Province, promote the integration and positive interaction of internal and external academic resources, and further enhance the core competitiveness of research and the ability to serve the national strategy and social development, Shandong University established the “Rural Revitalization Research Center of Shandong University” with Professor Wang Guangzhen of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the School of Management as the director of the Center.
The Center, initiated by Shandong University, aims to be built into a provincial research and practice platform of “rural revitalization community”. With disciplinary advantages and integration of resources inside and outside the province, it will create a comprehensive rural revitalization research and service platform integrating research, result transformation, services for Shandong Province, and personnel training. It is an important initiative to build a Shandong model of rural revitalization and respond to the needs of the national rural revitalization strategy, as well as an effective way to strengthen university-enterprise cooperation and implement services for Shandong Province.
Located in Shandong Province and facing the whole country, the Center focuses on the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, solving the major scientific and technological problems of the revitalization of agriculture and rural areas, and focusing on the theoretical research and social services in five aspects: rural revitalization and cultural and tourism integration, rural reform and urban-rural integration development, ecological civilization and beautiful countryside construction, agro-forestry economy and rural industrial development, and rural culture and rural social governance. The Center aims to explore the establishment of a platform and mechanism for cooperation among universities and colleges in serving the national rural revitalization strategy, provide Shandong practice and Shandong University experience for the implementation of the national rural revitalization strategy, and provide scientific and technological support and think-tank services for the comprehensive implementation of the rural revitalization strategy.
Relying on the School of Management, the Center integrates the relevant academic forces in the university, as well as forces in and out of the province including the Shandong Tudi Rural Revitalization Group Co., Ltd, Shandong Rural Revitalization Research Society, Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shandong Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, China Agricultural University, and Sichuan University, to integrate the theoretical research on rural revitalization with the analysis of data on economics and management and planning and design, creating a high-level rural revitalization cooperation community integrating theories and practices.
The Center will strive to achieve the planning goal of “1+3+5”, including “one Shandong model for rural revitalization, three academic leaders and five service demonstration bases”, and help Shandong Tudi Rural Revitalization Group Co., Ltd to launch the first rural revitalization research model with Shandong characteristics and national influence. The Center will actively enhance the cooperation and exchange with other related research institutions of domestic and foreign universities to build a domestic first-class high-end think tank platform for rural revitalization, making positive contributions to serving the rural revitalization strategy and building a Shandong model for rural revitalization.
