On June 27 and 28, to further study and implement the important thesis of General Secretary Xi Jinping on opening to the outside, accelerate the establishment of a “dual circulation” development pattern in which domestic economic cycle plays a leading role while international economic cycle remains its extension and supplement, better play the role of opening up to the outside world at a high level, and promote the high-quality development of China’s economy to shape a new momentum and new advantages, the 2023 Shandong Cross-border E-commerce High-quality Development Industry Forum was hosted by the Administrative Committee of Weifang Comprehensive Bonded Zone and the School of Management of Shandong University and organized by Shandong University - Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone Cross-border Trade (E-commerce) Industry Research Institute. Lu Yanhua, Vice President of Shandong University, Lu Yi, Director of the Investment Promotion Agency of Department of Commerce of Shandong Province and Level I Division Rank Official, and Di Bo, Vice Mayor of Weifang Municipal Government, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
In his opening speech, Lu Yanhua expressed his hope that the high-quality development industry forum could be an opportunity to explore the formation of school-local-enterprise synergy, to achieve new breakthroughs in science, industry and education integration development model, to help build a high-quality ecosystem of cross-border e-commerce industry, and to collaborate to promote the high-quality development of digital technology, digital trade, and foreign trade.
Lu Yi said that with province’s cross-border e-commerce development entering a new stage, the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province will grasp the policy opportunity of the whole cross-border e-commerce pilot zone to implement cross-border e-commerce leapfrog action, and promote the province’s cross-border e-commerce to achieve high-quality development through the strengthening of the digital empowerment, boosting industrial upgrading, and optimizing the ecology development. Di Bo hoped that Shandong University - Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone Cross-border Trade (E-commerce) Industrial Research Institute gives full play to the advantages of resources to provide support for cross-border e-commerce system innovation, management innovation, and service innovation, becoming a new model of co-frequency resonance and win-win cooperation between Weifang and Shandong University. Wang Longtang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone, presided over the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Lu Yanhua and Di Bo jointly inaugurated the Shandong University-Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone Cross-border Trade (e-commerce) Industrial Research Institute.
Wu Changqi, Dean of the School of Management of Shandong University, awarded appointment certificates to Huo Jianguo, Vice President of the China Society for the Study of the World Trade Organization, Fan Libo, Professor of International Business School of the University of International Business and Economics, Du Guochen, Deputy Director of the E-Commerce Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, Qi Jianhong, Professor of the School of Economics of Shandong University, and Deng Ziliang, Professor of the Renmin Business School of Renmin University of China.
In the keynote report, Huo Jianguo analyzed the development trend and innovation of e-commerce in the future under the title of “Grasp the Challenges of Cross-border E-commerce Development, Seize the Opportunity to Accelerate Innovation and Development”, providing inspiration for future e-commerce enterprises on how to integrate resources and make the best use of the situation. Professor Fan Libo focused on cross-border e-commerce and industrial zones with the topic of “‘Cross-border E-commerce + Industrial Zones’ Promoting the High-quality Development of Foreign Trade”, and put forward countermeasures and suggestions for the development of cross-border e-commerce + industrial zones through the case study of TikTok and other enterprises. Ren Rong, Associate Professor from School of Management of Shandong University, presented the topic of “Operation Mode of China’s Headline Cross-border E-commerce Platforms--Taking SHEIN and TEMU as Examples”. Through in-depth analysis of cross-border e-commerce giants SHEIN and TEMU, he put forward targeted suggestions for Chinese headline cross-border e-commerce enterprises to optimize and upgrade their strategic adjustments as well as cross-border e-commerce platforms’ operation models. Professor Wu Changqi presided over the keynote speech.
The round-table dialogue was divided into two sessions, which centered on two themes. In the dialogue on the theme of “Opportunities and Challenges for the Development of Digital Trade Industry”, Du Guochen, Wang Mingyi, Professor of Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Zhang Ping, Senior Manager of Strategy Development for North China and Shandong Region of Amazon Global Store, and Zhang Zhenfei, Senior Account Manager of eBay Greater China, exchanged insights around the theme and discussed the impact mechanism of the opening up of digital trade on the global development. In the dialogue on the theme of “How to Build a Cross-border E-commerce Ecological Service System”, Feng Haitao, staff member of Special Supervision Section of Weifang Customs District, Wang Dong, Chairman of Shandong Nuheel Cross Border E-Commerce Co., Ltd., Han Qingwei, General Manager of Weifang Huida Supply Chain Co., Ltd., and Xu Jianzhang, Executive Director of Honesty Co., Ltd., conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on issues including cross-border e-commerce industry development and ecological construction. Meng Qingchun, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the School of Management of Shandong University, and Shen Jibao, Member of the Party Working Committee of Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone and Director of the Department of Party Affairs, presided over the two dialogues respectively.
