Shandong University was established in 1901with a long history, a variety of disciplines, strong academics and distinctive characteristics. It is a national key comprehensive university under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Educationwith significant impact domestic and abroad.
With a hundred years of vicissitudes, the management education of Shandong University has been through four main stages: business education, national economy management education, business administration education and management education.Early in the school establishment, Shandong University set up the discipline of Commerce; After China’s reform and opening up, Shandong University established the national economy management major in 1980; In 1985, the School of Management science was established at the original Shandong University. The former Shandong Industrial University established the School of management engineering. In 1994, the former Shandong University officiallly established the School of Business Administration; in 1999, after major integration, it was changed into the School of Management; the former Shandong Industrial University also established the School of Management in 1999. In 2000, after the establishment of new Shandong University, the east campus management school and the south campus management school were merged into the new management school.In the 21th century, management education of Shandong University has entered a new developmentstage.
The discipline configuration and talent training system of the school are gradually perfected.The School consists of 2 doctor degree programs (Enterprises Management, Management Science and Engineering), 7 master degree programs ( Enterprises Management, Management Science and Engineering, Accounting, Tourism Management, Technology Economy and Management, Science of Library and Informatics), 13 bachelor degree programs, which covers threee first cotegory disciplines, namely Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering, Management of Library and Information. The School still offers seven professional master degree programs. The School has more than 6,000 students and is one of the largest school in the university.
The School has built a complete academic team with co-operating closely between young and old, China and abroad. The School has more than 130 faculty members , including 26 professors and 70 asscociate professors,with over 70 having doctor degree. While upgrading the existing faculty quality, the School of Management has established a lecture/distinguished professors and visiting professors system, a considerable number of scholars and entrepreneurs with rich knowledge and experience are invited as part-time professors, the faculty has become increasingly powerful.
The scientific research prowess in the school is constantly improving.As “Economic Mangement Research Base of Shandong Province’, the School of Management plays a keyrole in management research and consultation for the government agencies and enterprises as well. In recent years, faculties of the School of Management have published more than 1100 papers in leading academic journals domestic and abroad, published nearly 100 academic monographs and textbooks, undertaken more than 80 scientific research projects at national and provincial level, and won more than 60 scientific research awards at provincial and ministerial levels.
The school highly values domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperations. In recent years, the school has built close communications and cooperations with universities and colleges in the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, invited famous scholars from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Hongkong, Taiwan, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Xi 'an Jiaotong University, Nankai University and famous entrepreneurs from Hisense group, Inspur, Shandong General Tobacco Group and Jinan iron & steel groupfor academic reports, and successfully held several ‘International Management Forum’ and “SDU-General Senior Management Forum”. The School has also sent faculties to universities and enterprises in South Korea, Japan, Australia, UK, Canada, Hongkong to visit and attend academic conferences.
Looking into the future, the School of Management will take “educating people , rigorous practical, advocating the truth, serving the society” as its mission, promoting the expansion of training scale of high-level management talents and improvement of teaching quality, actively improving the levelof discipline construction,providingopportunitiesfor staff, creating an idealenvironment for teaching and research, taking historical responsibility of the society, contributing to the social and cultural progress and economic construction.
